1. Some GI Mesenchymal Tumor Pitfalls
We will consider a simple approach to classification of gastrointestinal mesenchymal neoplasms based on the most likely layer of the gastrointestinal tract in which certain types of neoplasms arise. For example, whereas gastrointestinal stromal tumors are typically centered in the muscularis propria, fibromatoses are generally mesenteric. With this as a backdrop, we will review several common and rarer types of neoplasms and some pitfalls involved in diagnosing them.
2. A Potpourri of Colorectal Polyps
Colorectal polyps can be neoplastic, hamartomatous, or in other categories with some degree of overlap between several of the types. The etiology of a number of polyp types remains incompletely understood. We will discuss several types of sporadic and syndromic colorectal polyps and anticipated clinical correlates.
